These classes look different than last time I checked! What gives?

Our goal is to always provide the most current and thorough inbound information possible. Since the world of inbound changes faster than you can say "Inbound Methodology," we re-vamp our classes on a yearly basis so YOU can stay on top of those changes! The 2014 edition of the Inbound Certification was released on 5/1/14 and is comprised of two additional classes as well as refreshed and revamped content for the previous nine sessions. Inbound Certification 2014 now includes a total of 11 classes that cover all aspects of what successful inbound is all about: from inbound marketing, to inbound services, to inbound sales.

       

Why should I get recertified?

The world of inbound changes fast! We want to make sure that you remain at the forefront of inbound knowledge and to continue to find success with it.             

In May, we launched the 2014 version of the Inbound Certification.  Nine of the previous classes have been replaced with updated versions. Since the certification is designed to teach not just inbound marketing, but what it takes to be an inbound company as a whole, we've also introduced two new classes to the program: a class on the essentials of inbound as a whole, as well as an inbound sales class.             

So if you'd like to learn about what is new in the world of inbound, we think you'll find a lot of value in renewing your certification.

           

I took the test last year. Can I just take the test without taking all of the new classes?

Since we completely re-vamped the nine existing classes with new content as well as added two brand new courses, it’s highly recommended that you go back and watch the classes over again. You certainly can take the test to see where you stand, but if you don't pass, you must wait 48 hours before taking the test again. You can take the test up to three times before getting locked out for 30 days.  I highly recommend using our study guide as a resource to help you prepare to rock it on the test.

           

How is this different from Inbound Marketing University?

Inbound Marketing University (IMU) was a series of 18 webinars on everything from public relations to publishing blog posts. IMU was started in 2009 and has since been replaced by our new Inbound Certification. The Inbound Certification program is a series of 9 classes based on the framework of the inbound methodology. Unlike IMU, the Inbound Certification teaches marketers the purpose of and tactics for successfully attracting, converting, closing, and delighting customers.

           

How long does this certification take?

This certification includes eleven pre-recorded training classes tied to the Inbound Methodology. Each class is around 30-45 minutes in length.

           

Where did my user profile go?

It's getting a facelift! User profiles for all graduates of Inbound Certification will be available in the coming months. If you get certified before user profiles are available, don't worry. We'll make sure you get one too.

           

I'm already certified through IMU. Do I need to get re-certified?

Yep, you do. Although IMU certification was complete when it was introduced, the world of inbound marketing changes fast. The Inbound Certification teaches a thoroughly modern, comprehensive course on what it means to be an inbound marketer today.

           

Are these classes up to date?

Inbound marketing is constantly evolving. We update our materials regularly to reflect changes in both tools and strategies.

           

Who can I contact for more information about a particular class?

Each test question is designed to test your knowledge of inbound methodology. Topics are pulled directly from the key points laid out in each of our nine preparatory classes. Yes, they're tough. But that certificate means something special, so it ought to be hard to get one.

HubSpot Certification

Who is the HubSpot Certification for?

HubSpot has a lot of moving parts. We designed this certification program to prepare you for and to test you on having a working knowledge of HubSpot and inbound best practices. In this certification, you'll not just learn how to use the tool; you'll learn why you're using it and how it fits into a broader inbound methodology.

 

Want to become an expert in HubSpot's software and to showcase tangible inbound results? This is a great place to start.

 

How long does this certification take?

This certification includes a test and practicum covering seventeen introductory training classes tied to each of HubSpot's primary moving parts. Each class is comprised of short, pre-recorded videos, and some classes have optional live Labs which you can attend. The information on the test is directly related to the content in those seventeen classes. After passing your certification test, you are asked to submit your account for review after at least eleven out of seventeen practicum items are satisfied. But, if you've been following along and completing the recommended next steps for each class in the certification curriculum, there's a good chance you've already completed the practicum requirements! If this is the case, there's no need to re-do them, just go ahead and submit your portal.


Do I need to attend each class live?

Nope! Each of our training classes are available on-demand. While we do recommend attending the live Labs associated with training classes, they're not required. Check out your HubSpot training app for more information.


Can I submit more than one portal for my practicum?

Unfortunately no. Practicum requirements must be met in just one portal. If you manage multiple portals, you will need to submit for review assets from only one.


I passed the test. Where is my badge?

Congratulations! To become fully HubSpot certified and to receive your badge and certificate, your HubSpot account must satisfy our practicum. We wanted to create a certification program that rewards not just inbound and HubSpot knowledge, but real results.


I passed the test, but it still says I'm "not yet certified." What gives?

The HubSpot Certification has two parts: a test and a practicum. In order to get officially certified, you'll need to pass the test AND submit a practicum that meets the requirements. The details of what the practicum includes are included in the email you'll receive when you pass the test.


I submitted my practicum more than 5 business days ago, but haven't yet heard back. What's the status?

If you've ever unsubscribed from any HubSpot emails, you may not receive the email notifying you that your practicum has been approved. If it's been more than 3 business days since your practicum was submitted and you're still waiting for results, the easiest way to check your status is to log into your portal, head over to "Certifications," and scroll down to the HubSpot Certification. If you see a green box around it that says "Status: passed," you're all set!


I've already taken the HubSpot Certification test, but I haven't yet submitted my practicum. It looks like you just released a new test edition- do I need to start from scratch and take the new test?

No, but please let us know in the "Anything else you'd like to add?" section of your practicum submission that you passed using the old test.


What if someone else at my company has passed the practicum already? Do I still need to submit my own?

While the practicum is tied to your portal as a whole, your test - and your certification badge as a whole - is tied to your email address. So even if your portal has already been approved, you still need to submit your portal and your specific email address for review using the practicum submission form. Just be sure you submit your practicum using the same email address with which you passed the test and you'll be good to go!


I’ve submitted my practicum, but I just got an email reminding me to submit it.  What gives?

First off, congrats on your submission! We’re excited to see what you’ve been up to. If you passed your test more than two weeks ago and your practicum has yet to be approved, you may receive an email like this. These messages are sent out a set amount of time from when you passed your test, so if you’ve already submitted your practicum when you receive one, disregard it. Not to worry - it doesn’t mean we don’t have your practicum! It’s just still in our grading queue for the week.

I submitted the practicum together with someone else at my company.  Why did only he/she pass?

Since HubSpot certification badges are tied to email addresses, whichever address was submitted was the one that was passed. To ensure you pass, as well, resubmit the practicum under your own name and email. Never fear - you can use the same criteria as before, just be sure to use your address!

Partner Certification

Who is the Partner Certification for?

This certification is only available for HubSpot Agency Partners actively using a paid subscription of the software for themselves or at least one client.  Agency Partners must have purchased HubSpot's Partner Inbound Success Training in order to access the certification training and exam. Check out our Partner Inbound Success Training services page for more information.


How long does this certification take?

This certification includes ten Partner training classes, each around 15-30 minutes in length.


How many people in my organization need to take this exam to certify the agency?

Although we encourage your entire agency to take the Partner Certification exam, only one person at your company needs to take and pass the exam to certify the entire company.  You must have at least one user who is HubSpot Certified in your portal in order for any user to take the Partner Certification exam.


Does my agency have to get certified and take this exam to be a HubSpot Partner?

There is no mandate to take this exam or any of the HubSpot certifications.  However, if you wish to be a Certified HubSpot Agency and qualify for the Tiers program, you will have to pass the Partner Certification and the HubSpot Certification.


What's the difference between HubSpot Certification, Partner Certification and Inbound Certification?

The three exams test on different material.  The HubSpot Certification tests your knowledge of the product and ability to use the software. The Partner Certification tests your ability to execute and manage campaigns for clients using HubSpot.  The Inbound Certification is available to anyone and is an individual certification testing knowledge on the inbound methodology.


What does being a HubSpot Certified Agency get me?

Upon passing the exam you will be officially dubbed a HubSpot Certified Agency.  You will receive a badge to use and promote on your website as well as a printable PDF to hang up somewhere at your company.  You will also now be eligible for our Tiers program and be able to promote your certification within the Services Marketplace.

 

I'm already a certified agency - what is this and do I need to take it?

If you have already been certified you do not need to take this exam immediately (although we recommend it).  Your existing badge does not expire until December 31st, 2013.  When you do choose to take the exam, you will receive an updated badge upon completion.


What is the Tiers Program?

HubSpot constantly analyzes the performance and success of all its Partner Agencies. We certify them Platinum, Gold and Silver accordingly. Each tier level comes with its own set of benefits for the agencies that qualify.


How do I qualify for the Tiers Program?

In order to be placed in a certain tier, you must meet the following criteria:

Tiers are calculated every month. Provided your agency meets the required criteria, you can advance tier level on a monthly basis. Tier demotions are done on a quarterly basis.

 

What tests do I need to take to be officially a Certified Agency?

To be an official HubSpot Certified Agency you will need to take and pass both the HubSpot Certification exam and the Partner Certification exam.  You will take the HubSpot Certification first and then the Partner Certification.

HubSpot Design Certification

Who is the HubSpot Design Certification meant for?

Currently, the HubSpot Design Certification is meant for users who have at least an intermediate level of proficiency with creating websites. Due to the styling component of the product, you will need to be able to write and interpret CSS and how it relates to HTML. The content of the certification may apply best to HubSpot partners and marketplace providers, though anyone interested in learning more about designing templates with HubSpot’s design tools is welcome to take part.


How long does this certification take?

This certification includes six training classes, each around 30-60 minutes in length.


Do I need to know how to code to pass the certification?

Yes. You will at least need to understand how HTML elements are styled with CSS. Advanced knowledge with Javascript or server-side languages may prove helpful, but is not at all necessary to complete and pass the certification.


When I pass the certification, will I be able to ungate myself (or my clients) for the HubSpot COS tools?

Do I need a HubSpot portal to create templates for the practicum portion?

No. In fact, for all interested parties, we would recommend creating a free Service Provider account, which will give you access to a sandboxed portal with all of the necessary tools.

Contextual Marketing Certification

What is Contextual Marketing?

We are all different people, with our own preferences and needs. But currently, most marketing still treats us like we’re all the same, regardless of whether we’re just landing on a website for the first time or if we’re already a customer!

Contextual marketing personalizes a user’s experience on your website, based on the context of who they are and what they’re looking for.   It not only involves smart content, but also begins with creating a website designed with your users in mind.


Who is the Contextual Marketing Certification for?

The certification is available to users with access to a Professional or Enterprise portal on the HubSpot COS platform.  This is due to the use of smart content in the certification, which is only available to those accounts.  

The two-part Contextual Marketing Certification is designed for those who are comfortable with the HubSpot tools and inbound best practices.  As the content in this certification is closely tied to who your contacts are and how they're segmented, in order to be successful, you should feel comfortable with lead segmentation strategies.


How long is this certification?

Your certification preparatory materials are comprised of 4 sessions taught by one of HubSpot's Contextual Marketing experts. Each is 30-45 minutes long.  Watch each of the four classes at your own pace. Class content is cumulative; it is highly recommended that you work your way through each session sequentially, beginning with "Creating a Remarkable User Experience."


How do I get certified?

In order to become officially Contextual Marketing Certified, you must pass a test and practicum. You have 90 minutes to answer 75 multiple choice and true/false questions, and must score 75% or more. To become fully certified, you must complete the Contextual Marketing Certification practicum, which involves submitting smart content for review. Details will be provided once you pass the Contextual Marketing Certification test.


Do I need to know how to code for this certification?

No - no coding knowledge is needed. The certification is specifically geared towards marketers. It is not aimed at designers (who should instead look at the COS Designer Certification) or developers.

 

Can I submit more than one portal for my practicum?

No. Practicum requirements must be met in just one portal.


Can I submit my client's portal?

Yes, as long as all of the practicum requirements were created by you.

General Certification Questions

Test

I didn't pass my test! Can I take it again?

Of course! If you don't pass, you must wait 48 hours before taking the test again. (Pro tip: Use those 48 hours to study up.) Use our study guides as resources to help you prepare to rock it on the test. You can take the test up to three times before getting locked out for 30 days.

Can I save my test progress and come back later?

Nope. Once you start the test, the timer starts and cannot be paused - even if you close out of the page or your browser. You need to complete the test within one sitting.

 

I tried to take the test but when I logged in, it told me that I did not pass. I haven't even taken the exam! What happened?

All our certification test are timed, and the timer starts as soon as you view the first page of questions. Chances are, you started the test at a previous time, but closed out of it before finishing. While the test timer keeps running regardless of if you still have the test window open, the system can't send notifications of expired time while you're not currently logged in. So, it wasn't until the next time you logged in when you received the notification that you were out of time.      

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience! The test will unlock itself 48 hours after you received the notification that your time expired.


I passed but think I can get a better score! Can I take it again?

We don't currently offer retakes for folks who have already passed the test. Raw test scores aren't displayed anywhere, though, so if you pass, you pass!


Can I see a breakdown of test questions and answers?

While we do not release full test results in order to allow everyone equal opportunity at passing the exam, you can email academy@hubspot.com to receive a section-by-section score breakdown.


You calculated my score wrong, and I should have passed.

When we calculate your score, we look at incorrect answers / number of questions, instead of averaging the percentage scores for each section. The problem with the second method is that not all sections have the same number of questions, and so the percentages aren't all weighted the same. If, after taking another look at your score using the above formula, things still seem off, let us know at academy@hubspot.com.

   

I never received an email after taking the test.   

If you've ever unsubscribed from any HubSpot email, you may not receive certification-related email. If you'd like to re-subscribe to only certifications-related email, please let us know by sending an email to academy@hubspot.com and stating that you'd like to re-subscribe.

Badge & Certificate

What's the difference between the badge and the certificate?

The badge is a PNG image that you can place on your own website. Show off those outstanding inbound skills! The certificate is a printable PDF. Put it on your fridge. Frame it. Laminate it and eat your breakfast on it in the morning. It's up to you!

   

What's the best way to show off my badge?

Your badge represents all the hard work you put in towards earning a certification - and not to mention your inbound expertise. Show it off! Here are a few of the ways you can demonstrate your expertise:

  • Add it to your website. You can use the badge embed code to add your badge to the HTML of your site, or upload the image. 
  • Display your badge to inbound marketers across the world in the inbound.org community. This actually happens automatically when you create an account with the same email you used to become certified.
  • Add your badge to your email signature! 
  • Add your badge to your LinkedIn profile, or upload your certification by using the "Add to profile" feature. The "Add to profile" link will easily add your certification to your profile. Below, find an image pointing to where you should select to add your Certification to your profile.

How do I embed the badge on my website?

After you pass your certification test, you'll be given your embed code.

        You can copy that code and paste it onto your website, anywhere you would like the badge to show up. If you're unsure how to do that, you can reach out to academy@hubspot.com and we'll help.

 

How do I resize this badge?

If you're familiar with HTML, you can edit the embed code. Look for the img tag and add in your height and width parameters.

       

Do you offer company certifications?

We only offer company certifications to HubSpot Partners (Value Added Resellers). If your company is a HubSpot Partner, you can take our Partner Certification.

       

How long will it take for my agency to appear in the Partner Directory for a particular certification?

It should happen within a day. You will just need to make sure that the person who was certified is a user on your HubSpot portal.

       

Why does my certification expire after one year?

The world of inbound is evolving at a very rapid pace. As the tools marketers have available in their toolboxes change, so does how we go about doing inbound. We'll be updating our classes and exam to keep up with these changes, so you'll need to get re-certified to demonstrate that you know just what inbound is all about on a yearly basis.

       

Can I add my badge to my LinkedIn profile?

You're more than welcome to add your badge to your LinkedIn profile. In fact, it's encouraged! Outlined below are the two ways we recommend adding your badge to your profile:            
1. Head over to the Certifications page within your HubSpot account, then select the certification you've passed. From there, right click on your certification badge image (located adjacent to the embed code), select "Save Image As," then save the image to your computer. From there, head over to your LinkedIn profile, click edit, then click over to the icon highlighted in orange within the "Background" section of your profile:  

Select the "Upload File" option, then upload the badge image you previously saved. BONUS: This method also works for including your badge in your email signature! Just add the image to your signature block.            
2. You can also add your certification information to the "Certifications" section of your LinkedIn profile. To do so, click "edit" at the top of your profile, then scroll down to the "Certifications" section. From there, select the "Add" link in the upper right-hand corner, then add in the correct information.

Expirations

Wait, my certification expires?

Yes, the certification does eventually expire, similar to Google or other marketing certification programs. Our certification programs consider how quickly the Internet and its marketing tools change - we want to make sure we are giving marketers the most up-to-date credentials as possible. That standard will help us to keep the certification truly valuable to its award recipients.

           

I received an email saying there’s a new version of one of my certifications available, but then it says I’ll get access to it in 30 days. Which is right?

While you have access to the updated certification classes and study guide right now, you cannot yet access the new test. This is because once you've passed, you're not permitted back into the test until one year from your test pass date. Feel free to review the new certification content right now, but keep in mind that you’ll only be able to access the test in 30 days.

           

I'm renewing a certification that has a practicum associated with it. Do I need to submit a new practicum in addition to passing the new test?

Yep! Certifications that include practicums (like the HubSpot, Design, and Contextual Marketing Certifications) have two requirements in order to be fully certified. This means that in order to fully renew, you must also complete both of those requirements again, too. Keep in mind that practicum requirements do change year-to-year, so don't save your practicum re-submission until the last minute!

           

If I have X days left before expiration but re-certify now, will it extend 13 months from the original expiration date or the re-certification?

Your new certification badge will extend 13 months from the re-certification date, not your original certification date. Keep in mind, though, that you won’t be able to access the new certification test until 60 days from your expiration date.

Other Questions
           

I am looking for another certification and can't find it. Where are the HubSpot Design, HubSpot. Contextual Marketing, and Partner Certifications?

  • The Inbound Certification is available to anyone and is accessible by anyone who registers.
  • The HubSpot Design Certification requires access to the COS design tools. If you are not a HubSpot customer, you can create a free Developer Account, which will give you access to the Designer Certification content.
  • The HubSpot Certification is only available to HubSpot customers. Double-check to make sure that you are signed into the correct account!
  • The Contextual Marketing Certification is only available to Professional- or Enterprise-level HubSpot customers with access to the COS. If that’s you, contact your Account Manager for more information!
  • The Partner Certification is only available to HubSpot Partners who have completed the Partner Inbound Success Training.

 

Can I connect with other certified folks?

Great idea! There are a couple of ways to sync up with other certified inbound marketers.

  • First, if you're a Twitter user, you can follow the #INBOUND hashtag.
  • Second, check out inbound.org! It's a free online community for discovering great inbound content and connecting with other amazing inbound marketers.
  • Last but not least, you can always join our LinkedIn group for even more opportunities to connect.            
           

I'm looking to hire a new, inbound-savvy employee. Can I see who's passed one of your certifications?           

Yep! If you head over to inbound.org, you'll be able to network and connect with other members of the inbound community across the world. If they've passed one of our certifications, you'll see it listed right on their member profile. You'll also get a window into what they've been saying and sharing - a great indicator of their inbound expertise!

           

I noticed a spelling or grammatical mistake.

Can I change the name on my certification badge?

Yep! In your HubSpot account, when you change your name in Settings (when logged in to your account, select your name in the top-right, then "Settings"), that will also update the name on your certification badge and certificate.

Can I move my certification to a different email address?

Absolutely!

The only caveat is that the address you’re moving certifications TO must currently be associated with a HubSpot Portal of some kind. Either add the address you’d like to move your certifications TO as a user in an existing portal, or create a free account here.     

           
Once you’ve made sure the address you’re moving your certifications to is associated with a HubSpot portal of some kind, send an email with the addresses for which you’d like certifications moved FROM and TO to academy@hubspot.com and we’ll get to work! Oh, and just as a heads-up, this process generally takes up to 7 business days.

               

Can you reset my password? The reset isn’t working.

Unfortunately there's no way for us to reset your password. However, you can create a new user or account with the correct email address and if necessary, we can transfer any existing certification to that new account.                    
You can also submit a web ticket with our friendly Support team, and they will get back to you with help within one business day.

Are there any other terms or rules I should know about? Yep, read on.

  • First off, we reserve the right to modify these terms at any time without giving you prior notice. Your use of the HubSpot Academy or its certifications after any such modification constitutes your agreement to follow and be bound by these terms as modified. If you don’t agree with these terms, you shouldn’t use the HubSpot Academy or its certifications.                   
  • If we provide you with a certification badge, certificate or other associated content, you may not alter the intended meaning or appearance of such certification badges, certificates, or associated content in any way.
  • Except as we describe below, all certification badges must include an individual's name.  Companies or agencies are not permitted to put their company or agency name on a certification badge. This does not apply to our Partner Certification badge, which may include the Partner’s company or agency name.                   
  • Unless we otherwise agree in writing, no HubSpot Academy content (certifications included) can be sold or used for profit by you or your company or agency.
  • We will not release information about whether or not you have taken a test, how you performed, whether or not you submitted a practicum, or other items related to your certification performance without your permission.  This also means that if you are looking to understand how someone else performed on a certification, you’ll have to ask him or her directly, or get his or her permission to have this information sent to you.
  • All certification participants must abide by all the other rules and criteria listed here on this page or otherwise applicable.                   
  • We may change the name or appearance of any certification badge as necessary and you must use the most up-to-date version.
  •                    
  • Unless otherwise specified, all certification badges expire one year from the end of the month following when they were granted. Certification participants will need to renew their certification status on or prior to this expiration in order to retain access to the certification badge. Nope. Though we do hope our participants learn a lot from our certifications and other stuff we offer through HubSpot Academy.

                                               

Are there any special terms that apply to HubSpot Partners?                    

  • Unless otherwise agreed upon, the Partner Certification can only be completed by HubSpot Partners that have purchased Partner Inbound Success Training and have passed the HubSpot Certification. 
  •                            
  • No Partner can be listed as Partner Certified without having previously passed the HubSpot Certification.
  •                            
  • Maintaining an active Partner Certification or HubSpot Design Certification may be required to access certain features, and there may be pre-requisites to completing these or other certifications as we further describe on academy.hubspot.com.
  •                            
  • A Partner Certification cannot be transferred to another company or agency, even if the individual that actually completed the certification is engaged by such other company or agency.
  •
