Overview

The HubSpot x Generation Sales Micro-Internship Program is a workforce development program designed to support aspiring sales professionals and HubSpot customers. Participating students receive 5-weeks (175 hours) of SaaS Sales training led by industry experts. Then, they are matched with a HubSpot customer (like you!) for 3-weeks to complete a short-term (45-hour), applied learning project with you and your team.

After gaining an understanding of their client’s ideal customer profile (ICP), students will build a list of qualified prospects and demonstrate how customers can leverage HubSpot's Sales Hub Professional tier tools (valued at $90/salesperson), customized messaging, and automation, to increase the capacity and efficiency of sales teams. Customers will receive a free Sales Hub Professional trial for the duration of the program.

Created in partnership with Generation, a global workforce development non-profit, your participation in this program supports the professional and economic mobility of students from underserved communities of the Appalachia region of the US, while your team is able to increase your sales productivity and drive meaningful results  - all at no cost to you!

Resources

Customer & Student Expectations

Before being matched with a student, HubSpot customers are expected to:
  • Select a representative from their business to be the primary point of contact for the student during the project period.
  • Review the program customer guide and be prepared to provide students with useful insights into their business and sales process. This might include information about your business, ICP, buyer personas, product demonstrations, etc.
  • Understand that students will need access to your HubSpot portal to complete a defined set of deliverables. A permissions guide for students will be provided.
  • Understand that the primary purpose of this program is for students to leverage their training with HubSpot during their micro-internship with you and use their newly acquired skills in HubSpot Sales Hub Professional to demonstrate how these tools can be effectively leveraged within a business's overall sales strategy. Customized resources developed for customers such as sequences, email templates, and playbooks may not yield results by the end of the program. However, businesses can expect to gain an understanding of how they can continue to successfully utilize Sales Hub Professional tools in the future.

During the customer project period, HubSpot customers are expected to:

  • Meet with the assigned student as outlined in the program schedule to monitor progress and review final deliverables.
  • Customers are required to attend the pre-scheduled group meetings and to facilitate scheduling of the independent project meetings.
  • Where possible, avoid having students work outside of the project purpose, to ensure that they can focus primarily on using HubSpot’s personalized sales engagement tools to create resources that customers can use to build pipelines and start relevant, contextual conversations with prospects to drive growth for their business.

Before participating in the HubSpot x Generation Sales Micro-Internship Program, students are expected to:

  • Complete 5 weeks (175 hours) of live, online training led by SaaS sales industry experts.
  • Have an interest in a career in SaaS Sales.
  • Complete HubSpot's Sales Software Certification.

During the customer projects, students are expected to:

  • Complete 45 hours of work over 3 weeks to complete their client project.
  • Use, where possible, HubSpot’s sales engagement tools to create resources that customers can use to build pipelines and start relevant, contextual conversations with prospects. Students will focus on developing the skills required to identify and qualify potential leads and creating assets to support lead outreach and engagement based on their client’s ICP.
  • Proactively communicate with their customer to provide project updates and ask for support.
  • Utilize office hours hosted by HubSpot and Generation instructors for project support.
  • Gain valuable work experience and be able to communicate the potential and value of HubSpot Sales Hub Professional tools for their client's business.

Before participating in the HubSpot x Generation Sales Micro-Internship Program, students complete 5 weeks (175 hours) of live, online training led by SaaS sales industry experts and complete HubSpot's Sales Software Certification.

Students will receive training from industry experts on SaaS sales skills and how to use HubSpot Sales Hub Professional. Students then gain valuable hands-on experience applying their skills with a HubSpot customer and are compensated for their work, paid for by HubSpot and Generation.

This program has the added benefit of tackling the issues of unpaid student labor, which exacerbates inequalities related to the representation of different racial groups and genders within our workforce.  By offering short-term, paid opportunities to students eager to network and work hard - regardless of location - this program serves as a solution to bridge the opportunity gap and enables any student to gain valuable experience in working with HubSpot specifically.

  • Lead research and prospecting
  • Connecting and communicating with leads
  • Utilizing CRMs to organize lead interactions and manage lead data
  • Effectively demonstrate the functionality and value of key HubSpot sales tools
  • Tracking performance against KPIs

Part 2: Customer Projects

After training is complete, students will be matched with a HubSpot customer to apply what they have learned. Students will work with their client to complete a 45-hour, applied learning micro-internship project over the course of 3 weeks. Students earn a stipend for the successful completion of their project, paid for by Generation and HubSpot.
